YOUR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT

No one can dispute the fact that humans are changing the planet, though no one can agree on what exactly the outcome will be. We can all do little things to stop being so wasteful and ensure that the planet won’t be irreversibly overheated and flooded in 50 years. Little things, like turning off lights and computers when not in the room; recycling; refilling plastic water bottles; not buying a gashog SUV and carpooling, will not only help in the long run, but will inspire others to do the same.

There are a bunch of Web sites that provide suggestions to be more green, but the best place to start (as well as get some ideas) is by calculating your ecological footprint, which is your impact on all aspects of the environment. There are a lot of Web sites that have ecological footprint calculators, but the best one is by Conservation International. It takes less than five minutes and will tell you just how wasteful you’re being. Even if you don’t plan to change your lifestyle, it’s still pretty fun just to see how you fit in with the rest of the world.
